It all started with a trip to India.
Four months pregnant with our first baby, we found ourselves in the vibrant streets of Dharamshala, nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas. The air was thick with the scent of incense and the sounds of temple bells, and everywhere we looked, there was color—brilliant, beautiful color.
I stumbled upon a small shop tucked away in a narrow alley, its walls draped with the most beautiful hand-stitched tapestries I had ever seen. The shop owner, a gentle man with kind eyes, welcomed us in and began sharing the stories behind these intricate creations.
Each tapestry was a labor of love, he explained, crafted by skilled artisans in Kashmir using techniques passed down through generations. The wool was sourced locally, dyed with natural pigments, and every stitch was placed by hand. Some pieces took months to complete.
I was captivated. Here was something truly special—not mass-produced, not machine-made, but created with intention and care. I knew immediately that I had to have one for our nursery.
That small idea quickly grew into something much bigger.
When friends and family saw our tapestry, they wanted one too. And then their friends wanted one. And suddenly, we realized we had stumbled upon something that resonated with people—a desire for meaningful, handcrafted items that tell a story.
Made For Interiors UK was born from that desire. We partner directly with artisan families in Kashmir, ensuring fair wages and sustainable practices. Every piece we sell supports these talented craftspeople and helps preserve their traditional art forms.
Today, we're proud to bring these beautiful, handmade treasures into homes across the UK. Whether it's a colorful ABC tapestry for a nursery or a whimsical leather balloon for a playroom, each item is chosen with care and shipped with love.
Thank you for being part of our story. We can't wait to be part of yours.
